Modern technology helps us produce products and systems that have great functionality. However, with such increased functionality comes increased complexity and hence a higher probability of mistakes being made during development or operation. Some of those mistakes may have an adverse effect on safety. Managing the development to ensure that the safety risks are reduced to an acceptable level needs skill, knowledge and experience.

Within Cambridge Consultants we have staff who specialise in addressing the safety implications of products and systems, particularly those where high-technology methods are used. Our work includes the following areas:

• Safety assessments of products and systems
• Providing advice on appropriate development methods
• Carrying out independent safety assessments (together with our sister company (Arthur D. Little)
• Generating methods for hazard identification and risk assessment, and creating tools to support those methods
• Acting as Expert Witness in legal disputes where safety is a key issue
