Sensor ASIC projects

Cambridge Consultants offers a complete design capability for ASIC projects. Our multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists can research and model the physics and mathematics of sensor and control system behaviour as part of the ASIC specification process. Using our life sciences capability we offer ASIC design expertise for medical and diagnostic devices such as lab-on-a-chip or biochip. In summary, a total ASIC design discipline from physics to production.

Typically our solutions are built around analogue to digital conversion, followed by digital signal processing, which enables us to design ASICs offering low power, low cost and high integration. This frequently gives our clients a market advantage with breakthrough technology. We have provided solutions for consumer, healthcare, automotive and aerospace applications.

Shown above is part of a semiconductor image sensor array that we designed and put through manufacturing and test for a high value aerospace application.

Another example is the highly integrated ASIC we designed for a consumer product, which was a personal healthcare diagnostic device employing a low cost optical array. This product is now on sale around the world.

In another project, an electromechanical circuit breaker was replaced by an electronic trip to increase accuracy and cut cost. We designed a mixed analogue and digital ASIC mounted on a low cost PCB with components on a single side. This electronic trip meets all our client's needs and electromechanical trips are discontinued.

Another ASIC we developed was for an automotive fuel cell system. We designed a hydrogen sensor and an ASIC using our XAP2 processor core which combined with our client's technology to form a complete platform. We also selected and managed the ASIC manufacturing, assembly and test partners.
