BlueStack Protocol Software Awarded Bluetooth Certification
Cambridge, 14th December 2000, - CCL's Bluetooth product business, today announced that BlueStack, their Bluetooth protocol stack software, has been awarded Bluetooth qualification. This qualification recognises that Mezoe's software meets the Bluetooth specification. It was established by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) to ensure that all Bluetooth products support the promise of "wireless made easy", and will add value to the consumer with guaranteed interoperability between devices. Tests are carried out by a Bluetooth Qualification Body - in this case, the UK's BABT. David Wilson, Bluetooth product manager at Mezoe commented, "This is great news and validates the results shown by our own testing where we have seen outstanding levels of interoperability and robustness."
Mezoe's BlueStack software has been developed to enable companies to add Bluetooth technology to their products quickly and easily. It's a flexible and configurable stack that is suitable for a wide variety of embedded applications, including phones and headsets, as well as PC-based applications. BlueStack can be used with standard Bluetooth baseband devices, including the BlueCore chip from Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR), offering developers a swift and reliable route to market.
Cambridge Consultants Limited has been working with Bluetooth technology for several years, and span out CSR as an inde-Pendent fabless silicon company in 1999. BlueStack is already being incorporated into many products currently in development including Socket Communications' Windows CE products.

Bluetooth is a pioneering wireless standard that will enable products to communicate with each other. It's the creation of a Special Interest Group founded by Ericsson, Nokia, IBM, Intel and Toshiba, and is a specification for a digital radio technology that operates in the 2.4GHz 'Industrial Scientific and Medical' band. It is intended to transfer small amounts of data between compatible devices over a range of up to 10m at a speed of 1Mbit/sec. Bluetooth is very low power, both in terms of consumption and transmission, and a complete transmitter and receiver can be implemented into a single low-cost silicon-chip, little more than a thumbnail in size. It's ideal, therefore, for integration into portable devices of any size.
