Innovation Day
2002 - CCL shows the way forward
Cambridge Consultants
Ltd (CCL) opened its doors to Europes leading
businesses and institutions this week, demonstrating
a range of its current work and speculating on the way
ahead for companies wanting to use modern technology
in their business.
This event is always well attended, and this year over
90 people joined us for the day from around the UK and
Europe to discover more about CCL's work, and to better
understand how current and emerging technologies could
affect their businesses.
Delegates interacted with a wide range of demonstrations,
including an OBEX-based Bluetooth camera-to-phone-to-PDA-to-printer
set-up, a Liebherr RFID equipped freezer, an animated
display of CCL's missile scoring impulse radar technology,
examples of CCL's user-interface design work, and a
range of spectroscopy applications.
Delegates were also invited to attend a number of supporting
presentations by CCL experts. These included plenary
sessions on the outsourcing of R&D and on using
CCL's Structured Idea Management scheme to create new
business opportunities, and seminars on the use of Bayesian
mathematics, how to turn a marketing idea into a product,
and the emerging potential of ultrawideband radio.
"It
is always very rewarding to speak directly to clients
with such a diverse range of interests," commented
Jim Schoenenberger, Associate Director at CCL. "The
environment in which we, and most of our clients operate
is unpredictable and ever-changing. Each new innovation
can present both an opportunity and a threat to a company's
market position. At the Innovation Day, we provided
a snap-shot of the environment as it is now and as we
see it in the future, enabling our delegates to better
prepare for what lies ahead."
Tim Champion, Manager of CCL's Product Unit, added:
"Many clients know that there are technologies
they should be aware of, but it is often difficult for
them to see how they are relevant to their business.
At our Innovation Days, we demonstrate how to apply
modern and future technologies, and illustrate how to
make them work for specific products or services. The
feedback I received from delegates this year was that
we succeeded in this aim once again."
A number of demonstrations and a suite of exhibition
panels will remain on display in CCL's Atrium throughout
the year. Guests are welcome to come in and browse.
