New
DPI requirement specification reflects
changing market
The acclaimed
DPI specification, produced by Cambridge
Consultants Ltd (CCL) to tackle the
problem of poorly performing dry powder
inhalers (DPIs) has been relaunched
by the company to reflect changes
in the market and regulation.
With the pipeline
for the dry powder inhaler (DPI) market
flooded with poorly designed products,
CCL, a leading European technology
design and development company, has
issued a free generic requirements
specification to help companies avoid
the pitfalls into which so many fall.
According to CCL, too many companies
fail to produce the dry powder inhaler
they set out to create simply because
they don't follow some essential and
guiding principles. The result is
that many designs either never reach
the market, or fail to gain regulatory
approval without the need for substantial
redesign. This failure leads to development
projects running behind schedule and
significantly over budget.
Jon Tuckwell, who leads CCL drug delivery
said, "The response to our last
DPI requirement specification was
very positive with a number of drug
delivery companies having engaged
in our methodology. However, since
we first issued the specification
last year, the market has seen several
changes including the latest guidance
from the FDA regarding dose counting.
We have also further improved the
specification by taking into consideration
additional factors such as the anti-choking
standards."
