Project Manager – Wireless

Main purpose of the job

Managing challenging and often complex wireless product developments for clients in a wide range of market sectors. Offering a high level of diversity and interest, the role will include interworking with other seniors within the Wireless Division to develop relationships with prospective clients and identification of new business opportunities.

Type of work undertaken by the division/group

The Wireless Division develops advanced radio-based solutions for a wide range of wireless applications. We have particular strengths in ultra-low power, low cost radio, as well as high performance professional systems. Application areas include telecommunications, healthcare, automotive and consumer goods. We also have significant pre-developed intellectual property to reduce development time and risk, such as an implantable medical radio architecture and Bluetooth and DECT software protocol stacks.

Recent examples of our work include a medical telemetry system, a family of satellite communication units and a high volume software radio IC for use in consumer goods. Further examples include products based on ZigBee, UWB, WiMAX and Bluetooth.

Specific responsibilities

Managing wireless projects, typically consisting of multidisciplinary teams (including hardware, software, digital signal processing, mechanics and production engineering).

The position involves the management of projects through the complete development lifecycle, from requirements definition through to final delivery. You will be involved in proposal preparation, selection of the team, negotiations with 3rd parties, managing concept generation, analysis of the system architecture, liaison across engineering disciplines and the specification, implementation and testing of the design.

You will manage projects typically in the region £10,000 to £3,000,000 that require delivery within tight timescales and budgets, managing both internal and external resources.

Minimum requirements

A good degree in engineering. Substantial industrial experience working in wireless product design and development. Project management experience essential. Other attributes:

  • Understanding of the wireless product development process
  • Experience in managing products through manufacture
  • Familiarity with managing multi-disciplinary projects (RF, analogue, digital, software, mechanics)
  • Working knowledge and experience of the wireless regulatory and type approval environment desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
