Electronics Engineer
Main purpose of the job
Working on multi-disciplinary projects, you will design, implement and ultimately lead complex analogue and mixed signal electronic systems at both PCB and silicon level. The position will require collaborating with other design engineers and scientists to solve our clients’ problems in an efficient manner.
Type of work undertaken by the division/group
The Analogue ASIC group design and develop circuits and systems for both discreet implementation and full-custom silicon chips. We specialise in analogue design and have particular strengths in low power, low noise radio implementations and in measurement systems and instrumentation, with applications in telecommunications, biomedical diagnostics and both industrial and consumer goods.
Recent project examples include
- Ultra low power radios for implantable telemetry
- RFID and Near Field Communications
- Novel approaches to cardiac rhythm management
- Ultra low noise opto-electronic sensors
- Bespoke data acquisition systems
The broad range of skills present in our group allow us to contribute novel solutions to multi-disciplinary projects in all areas of industry.
Specific responsibilities
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with ambition and strong analytical skills to tackle challenging technical problems whilst simultaneously developing new skills.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Proposing novel solutions during early phases of a project
- The specification, design, development and test of whole electronic subsystems, sometimes on multiple projects
- The design of interfaces between your electronics and that of other subsystems on the project
- Carrying out your specific project tasks under tough commercial and time constraints
- Supporting the development of Cambridge Consultants own internal intellectual property
Initially, this position involves taking roles within development projects with exposure to all aspects of development from contract negotiation to final delivery. There are opportunities for this role to develop rapidly into management of projects, including having full responsibility for delivery to our clients.
Minimum requirements
To meet the demanding requirements of this role you will have:
- An excellent first degree in electronic engineering or a related discipline
- A genuine passion for electronics, and engineering in general
- Some post graduate relevant industrial experience
- Strong technical and analytical skills, with key strengths in analogue and mixed signal electronics design
In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:
- Low noise sensor electronics design
- Data acquisition system design
- Control engineering
- An ability to apply MATLAB / Simulink as a design and simulation tool
- Microcontroller systems design and embedded control systems
- Embedded software design & implementation
A post-graduate qualification with a high level of practical experience would also be advantageous.
