Graduate Electronics Engineer
Main purpose of the job
Working within multi-disciplinary project teams on client assignments, you will help to design, implement and test analogue electronic hardware.
Type of work undertaken by the division/group
Cambridge Consultants’ Radio Sensing Group specialises in the design and development of systems that use radio waves for imaging, detection or tracking. With a mixture of radio frequency engineers, analogue and digital electronics engineers, software engineers, physicists and mathematicians, the group is able to develop complete radar and location systems for its clients. Recent projects include a pre-crash detection system for the automotive industry, a highly accurate object tracking system using impulse radar technology and a range of counter-terrorism and search systems including the prism 200 through wall radar.
Specific responsibilities
As a member of a project team working on a client assignment, you will be responsible for completing specific tasks within the time-scale and budget agreed with the project manager. As you gain knowledge and experience, you will take responsibility for progressively larger and more complex tasks. Opportunities to move into project management or commercial roles are likely to arise as your career develops.
Activities may include:
- Designing analogue and digital circuits for use in radar and location systems
- Working with our team of PCB designers to design circuit boards
- Specifying and sourcing components
- Testing and evaluating prototype designs
- Researching and reporting on the capabilities of new and existing sensor technologies
Minimum requirements
To meet the requirements of this role you will have:
- An excellent first degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- A solid foundation in analogue and digital electronics design
- Strong mathematical skills
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:
- RF circuit design
- Digital circuit design
- Power supply design
In addition, applicants should be both willing and able to work on UK defence projects.
