PCB Design Technician        

Main purpose of the job

To work with the design engineers, and offer a complete service from taking hand drawn circuit diagrams to delivering built and inspected PCBs.

Type of work undertaken by the division/group

PCB design and assembly facility for building low and high volume assemblies.  This includes Mentor Graphics PCB layout, Pick-and-place assembly, IR and vapour phase re-flow.  The group provides the following services:

    PCB Design

    • library part entry and checking
    • schematic capture
    • PCB layout
    • PCB post processing and Gerber generation 

    PCB assembly

    • solder paste screen printing
    • pick-and-place programming and assembly
    • solder reflow

    Inspection


    DFM services to our project teams

    The group maintains an involvement in the delivery of the completed product, as part of the project team, for the purposes of quality improvement, taking an active interest in issues arising during:

    • Final assembly
    • enclosure preparation
    • wiring harness

    Functional and production testing

Specific responsibilities

As a part of the Electronic Production Group, you will be involved in PCB design in the following areas:

  • library part entry and checking
  • schematic capture
  • PCB layout
  • PCB post processing and Gerber generation

You will work as a member of project teams to provide design for manufacture advice at all stages of the development process.

Minimum requirements

Your main skill should be multilayer PCB layout using CAD tools.  Experience in some or all of analogue and RF tracking, digital circuit layout, power electronics and digital circuit design is required.

A background in production engineering and knowledge of surface mount PCB assembly, including fine-pitched components, BGAs, board construction, via technologies and small passives (0402 / 0201) is required.           

Ideally you should have a qualification in electronic engineering, e.g. HNC.  An IPC recognised certification and / or knowledge of IPC standards will be an advantage.
