Case study: The Q2 Cube for Armour Group - Integrating the latest technology trends into really easy to use products
Internet radio has exploded in popularity in recent years, allowing people to access thousands of stations from around the world. But in the beginning, users had to choose between either buying an expensive (and usually quite large) internet radio set, or sitting near their computer, neither of which were particularly optimal solutions. We knew we could make the experience better and it took a bright product designer and the transfer of some neat telecoms IP to dramatically reduce the size and cost of internet radios. But it was the finding that people typically listen to only four stations on a regular basis that led to the development of a truly easy to use interent radio, the Q2 Cube. The product’s user-friendly and intuitive design makes internet radio fun, taking it from the desktop to the bedside table and turning it into a desirable consumer object. The user selects one of their four pre-selected stations by turning the Q2 Cube onto one of its four ‘live’ faces. A fifth face is dedicated to the speaker - tilt it forward to turn the volume up, tilt it backwards to turn it down. With no buttons and screen, the design is sleek and stylish too.
