The Drug Delivery to the Lungs (DDL) conference is the premier conference and industry exhibition dedicated to pulmonary and nasal drug delivery. The three-day conference consists of a programme of lectures covering five session themes. The focus is on providing a forum to present recent developments in the field of inhalation therapy through poster presentations. Join us on day one as Sebastian drives a poster session on how to optimize pMDI plume properties.

Investigating rules of design to optimise pMDI plume properties

Date | 7 December 2022

Time | 14:55 to 16:15

Speaker | Sebastian White, Principal Engineer working within Cambridge Consultants' Medical Technology division

Particle size acquisition and high-speed video processing has proven a valuable tool in the quantification of a pMDI’s plume structure. Application of these techniques to a parameterised nozzle allows investigation for the interplay between sump height and orifice diameter on several metrics: Delay, Optical Duration, Expansion Coeff. k, Dv50 and Cone Angle, by the computation of correlation coefficients. The developed method illustrates how pMDI nozzle designs could be optimised by such an empirical approach.
