Nitrate detection at lightning speed
Date: Wednesday 18th July
Time: 15:00- 15:20
Speaker: Roger Burton, Consultants Fluids and Mechanical Engineer, Cambridge Consultants
Increasing the efficiency of nutrient application and maximising yield are key to the efficient use of land, but must be traded against other operational costs. This talk describes an approach adopted by Cambridge Consultants for nitrogen detection which is fast enough to enable both measurement and application on the same pass. We will discuss the methods employed to reach the required detection rate and the remaining challenges to be tackled.
Roger Burton has been working with Cambridge Consultants in the US for 3 years on application of integrated technologies to agricultural applications. After a Master's degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in the UK, he joined Cambridge Consultants to work on various fluidic problems in applications across the company's portfolio, from squeezing oranges to detecting diabetes, leading teams in developing functional prototypes to demonstrate ground-breaking technologies. He has also lead mechanical developments for the packaging and protection of sensitive equipment in challenging environments for both high and low volume applications.
He currently works in the Boston office of Cambridge Consultants, specialising in multi-phase fluidic flows and leading multi-disciplinary design teams to solve complex problems from concept generation through to transferring to volume manufacture.
