SUMMARY:Human Machine Understanding - bringing together industry and academic perspectives
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to be organising a workshop at top academic conference Affective Computing & Intelligent Interaction\, in Glasgow\, UK\, this September 2024. \nThis is a forum to bring in industry and academic perspectives on what it takes to bring Human Machine Understanding technology from lab to life. Through discussions around the themes of ethics and regulations\, industry perspectives\, and academic perspectives\, we will highlight key challenges on both sides that can be resolved collaboratively. \nSpeak to us to find out more! \nDetails\nFrom Lab to Life: Realising the Potential of Affective Computing \nMachine capabilities are on the rise. New advances in AI and Robotics have enabled the creation of ever more competent artificial systems that have the potential to contribute to various types of human activities. However\, for this potential to result in a step-change in how humans and machines interact and work with each other\, machines also need to be competent at understanding their human counterparts. How can task-competent machines become competent teammates\, assistants\, and companions for human users? How can technology make sense of human behaviour\, responses\, and experiences? \n  \nOrganisers

SUMMARY:Securing the edge: Cyber Physical Systems Security
DESCRIPTION:Join us on June 4th as we explore the techniques needed to secure the cyber physical systems of the future\, whether it be for smart cities and infrastructure\, or IoT jet engines. \nCyber physical systems (CPS) are typically distributed\, complex and have safety impacts in the real world. Such systems have the potential to make life easier for their users and generate new revenue streams for their operators. However\, the rise of cyber physical systems and IoT devices in general poses a threat to the safety\, security\, and privacy of the public. To compound the issues around system complexity\, CPS are characterised by low compute power at the edge and complex supply chains. In this event we will explore the techniques needed to secure the CPS of the future\, whether it be for smart cities and infrastructure\, or IoT jet engines. \n15:15 – Is autonomous cyber-defence for operational technology possible? \nSpeaker: Madeline Cheah\, Cybersecurity specialist\, Cambridge Consultants\nAutonomous cyber-defence is desirable but challenging\, particularly for operation situations and technology. This is because of the need to consider safety\, different lifecycles\, heterogeneity\, opacity and the multiple contexts in which such technology functions. We explore in this talk the difficulties\, the extent to which research efforts have addressed these challenges and the potential advantages for autonomous cyber-defence in different situations. We envisage such a talk will be useful to practitioners and researchers looking to develop autonomous cyber-defence. \n15:40 – Cyber Physical Systems Security: Expert Panel Discussion \nChair:  Bob Oates\, Associate Director\, Cambridge Consultants\nThis talk provides a modular approach for industrial cybersecurity\, allowing security leaders to tailor their strategy based on their industry and business context.

SUMMARY:AI\, Law and Ethics 101
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening on the legal and ethical issues around using Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning in your business. The event will cover a broad range of topics\, including intellectual property issues and AI regulation\, and ways to potentially engineer or design around these issues. \nWe are delighted to bring you\, by popular demand\, an event all about the legal and ethical issues around using Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning in your business or commercializing your AI / ML products. The event will cover a broad range of topics\, including: \n\nIntellectual property issues – e.g. Can you patent AI models? Can you patent the output of a generative AI model\, and who owns that output? Are you allowed to use the outputs of a third party’s open-access model in your business? Who owns the output if you build a model but train it using a third party’s data?\nRegulation around AI – e.g. how might the EU AI Act impact commercializing your AI/ML? How do data privacy laws impact the training of AI models?\nEngineering or designing around the regulation – are there technical ways to mitigate these legal and ethical issues?\n\nThe event is suitable for anyone who may be using AI or ML in their businesses. If you are using or considering using open-access models like ChatGPT to generate content\, analyse data\, or identify potential R&D avenues to explore\, you will find this event useful. Similarly\, if you are developing your own AI/ML tools\, you will learn about things to think about before you commercialize the tools. The event is targeted at anyone working in science and technology in industry or academia\, and specifically\, not just those developing AI technologies\, but also those working in healthtech\, medtech\, and AI-aided innovation.
