We propose that Digital Microfluidics (DMF) may be particularly well suited to the rationalisation of Liquid Biopsy workflows that target the analysis of single Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs).

Specifically, we consider the case of RT-qPCR analysis of single CTCs as an example of an end-to end (sample-in to information-out) Liquid Biopsy workflow utilising DMF mechanisms, and present results from analytical and CFD models to highlight important considerations and design rules for the application of DMF-based devices.
