Our extensive experience spans SteamVR, HTC Vive, Google VR (Cardboard and Daydream), Microsoft HoloLens, Samsung Gear VR, Sony Eyeglass and WebVR.

This, coupled with our hardware development, mathematical and physics expertise, allows us to produce remarkable VR and AR experiences that would otherwise not be possible.

Examples include AR for minimally invasive surgery, VR that allows designers in different locations to interact with a CAD model in real time, and a custom SteamVR application to integrate an existing product with HTC’s Vive VR technology.

Low cost/fidelity experiences
Having developed multiple Android and iOS applications (as well as the cloud services behind them), we exploit the capabilities of modern smartphones alongside VR and AR tools to provide unique experiences using readily available technology.
Hybrid experiences
Our deep knowledge of the entire VR landscape means we are able to combine various different VR technologies and ensure a consistent experience for all, without each user needing a VR-capable computer.
Alternative interaction
Our product development experience allows us to quickly adapt new and existing products to work well with VR and AR, using these components to provide input or deliver the output from virtual components.
Networked experiences
We use our expertise in digital services to integrate remote systems and take the experience online. This includes both direct services, such as sharing the state of a VR space across the globe, and support services, such as distributing updates and 3D models efficiently and at scale.
Industrial applications
Moving beyond the consumer sphere, we’re taking powerful, intuitive experiences from the gaming world into industry. We create new ways to visualise big data, deliver training in a risk-free environment, enhance telepresence and improve user experience simulation.
Tracking technology
We’re using our expertise in vision and optical tracking systems and inertial sensing to empower the next generation of tracking technology. Years of experience in critical component design, algorithms and data fusion techniques give us an edge when optimising tracking in harsh environments.

X-ray vision surgery

Continuing our proud history of surgical innovation, we are exploring how AR can transform surgery by reducing the risk involved in operations.

Using Microsoft’s HoloLens headset, our highly intuitive AR surgical system equips surgeons with ‘X-ray vision’, making it possible to see inside a patient in real time while operating through minimally invasive openings. 

Valve SteamVR

Synapse, our sister company, first partnered with Valve to develop their base station technology and have since been deeply involved in the development of Valve’s SteamVR Tracking system.

Having created a hardware development kit (HDK) and delivered training to SteamVR Tracking licensees, Synapse is established as the foremost authority on developing custom tracking objects and hardware.

With a permanent workstation and space for room-scale testing with multiple users, we are ready to start experimenting and developing at a moment’s notice. Our VR lab features high-end machines capable of developing immersive, high-fidelity VR experiences and software licenses for the latest development tools.
