Higher performance on smaller scales
We apply our considerable expertise in radio frequency (RF) engineering and electromagnetic capability (EMC) to develop high-performing radios such as simultaneous cellular (3G/4G), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operation.
Our ability to engineer robust RF performance despite seemingly impossible size constraints plays a crucial role in delivering the hardware and software breakthroughs our clients demand.
Examples of our work include the 1.6GHz transceivers used in the Iridium satellite network, low-latency 5GHz transceivers for controlling industrial robots and VHF/UHF air traffic control transceivers.
Our experience covers virtually every aspect of radio and communications development, from fundamental research through to new product introduction for large volume manufacture.
Our multi-disciplinary approach allows us to partition functionality and performance to the part of the system where it is most cost effectively delivered, such as the antenna system, the radio electronics, a custom application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) or digital signal processing (DSP) software.
As devices shrink, accommodating the components required and delivering the desired wireless performance – the antenna in particular – become increasingly challenging.
We provide complete antenna simulation, design and testing in high-performance electromagnetic chambers to ensure that these considerations are part of the development process from the outset.
Implantable & body-worn devices
We have specific expertise in the interaction between electromagnetic waves and human tissue, making us uniquely able to accurately predict the impact of the human body on real-world antenna performance.
We use a number of multi-layered human body phantoms in wearable and implantable antenna development. Multiple recipes of tissue-simulating liquids allow us to closely mimic the electric properties of actual tissue over a wide range of frequencies.

Satimo Stargate 64
This anechoic radio and antenna test chamber is one of only a handful of facilities in Europe. Within this six-metre cube, we can carry out automated three-dimensional measurement and visualisation of wireless device behaviour and test body-worn technology using body phantoms or real live test subjects. This helps us to understand and optimise real-word RF performance of products such as smart implants (including implanted telemetry), connected drug delivery devices and wearables.
EMC test chamber
Our fully-shielded ETS-Lindgren anechoic test chamber is suitable for a wide range of EMC and RF testing, which is essential for new devices. It allows us to test for unwanted radiation and susceptibility to interference at an early stage with the results fed directly into product design, rather than later on when changes will be expensive to implement.
Our flexible, responsive and agile manufacturing facilities are ideally suited to electronic and electromechanical product builds, enabling us to very quickly set up short product runs built to an extremely high quality. We can build our own PCBAs using industrial representative equipment and ensure manufacture-ability during design. Having our own EPD facility is also extremely helpful in development, driving out DfX activities in eCAD, and feeding test results back into the design process from an early stage.
Enabling a new era in digital radio and IoT devices, through a dramatic reduction in radio size, cost and power consumption.
Using a fresh approach, we designed an energy efficient, future proof unit smart gas meter for one of Europe’s largest engineering companies, optimised for mass manufacture and ease of installation.
