The sector is enduring an unprecedented period of change. Global supply chain disruption, labour shortages, rising customer expectations and the imperative for sustainable practices are among the most pressing challenges.

Existing, maturing and emerging deep tech will allow organisations in retail and logistics to navigate turmoil and discover transformative value. Innovative, tailored solutions can optimise operations, reduce costs and improve satisfaction in this rapidly evolving space.

What we do

We help our clients keep pace with the rapidly evolving tech – including automation, AI and data analytics – which is essential for short and long-term competitiveness.

By applying existing technologies for simulating and monitoring (including digital twins, AI, RFID and IoT) we have already made progress in addressing industry challenges by enhancing inventory management, route optimisation and predictive analytics.

Additionally, we are working on robotics and automation solutions to mitigate labour shortages, improve efficiency and reduce human error. Looking ahead, promising technologies such as blockchain, for transparent supply chains, and 5G, for real-time data connectivity, will play increasingly crucial roles.

The right automation

Automation is rarely a drop-in replacement for manual labour. So, it is important to focus on the end goal, rather than how the task is currently performed. With an outside lens and a holistic understand of the tech landscape, we can analyse your operations to make sure you automate the right thing – maximising impact for your investment.

The benefit of automation

Successful operators are laser focused on the day job. They need automation to work for them – not the other way round. There is often a gap between end user needs and what is available off-the-shelf (whether that’s mature product or tech start-up).

We work closely with third parties to bridge the tech gap, speeding deployment while ensuring user needs are met.

Engineering the hardest automation

Automation is multidisciplinary. As we move up the automation curve (towards lights-off operation), the remaining tasks become exponentially hard to automate. These challenges need the best minds to solve them – whether that’s experts in vision, artificial intelligence or hardware optimisation. We have the skills and capability to complement your engineering team.

Featured insights

Our expertise

CC has a deep understanding of AI and its applications, including Bayesian inference, real-time signal processing and data analysis combined with extensive technical skills in areas such as predictive analytics, deep learning, edge AI and empathetic AI.

We are pushing the boundaries of the human-machine interface to develop edge AI use cases, generative AI models, new supervised machine learning models and types of data analytics.

Our work is unlocking new frontiers in areas such as uncrewed aerial vehicles, synthetic biology, remote monitoring systems, telecoms and beyond.

We specialise in developing robotics in areas that have not traditionally been automated or, in some cases, where automation was not even considered possible.

This requires more than just robotics expertise. Our experience in novel sensor technology, machine vision and AI are equally critical to automating ’semi-structured’ tasks – tasks that are clearly defined yet not purely repetitive. For example, as opposed to a robot that will pick all the apples on a tree, we might design a robot that picks only the ripe ones.

We draw on a wealth of experience when addressing each new challenge, having created robotic solutions across a range of industries, including industrial, consumer, agricultural and medical.

Digital security can become a business differentiator by using the latest technology to create customer trust and loyalty in your product and connected services.

Our expertise has been applied widely: to create wearables enabling new customer experiences; to empower new vehicle fleet management business models; and to allow pharmaceutical products to be authenticated in front of the consumer, so gaining their trust.

We solve the security challenges that are critical to ensure the continual and safe operation of your businesses. The advice we give is based upon a 20-year heritage of understanding precisely what security technology can achieve. This ensures that the right investment decisions are made to reduce security risk.

Our approach fuses traditional engineering analysis with emerging technologies and cutting-edge developments. We create market-changing innovations that deliver ambitious sustainability impact in market sectors such as consumer, medical, telecoms, carbon-intensive industrial and energy.

We monitor, restore and leverage healthy natural systems within emerging regulations while building commercial success. Applications include soil health tech, biodiversity, nature-based solutions. We cover areas such as new green energy, carbon capture and hydrogen, conceiving, developing, and scaling novel systems that radically reduce greenhouse gases to deliver meaningful, real-world climate impact.

We can use existing sustainability frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, or tailor our service to your business requirements. Either way, we’ll deliver business strategy, breakthrough technologies and novel processes that drive radical progress on the path to net zero emissions.

Our facilities

AI infrastructure

CC’s comprehensive onsite compute infrastructure allows us to explore options and train and test models more rapidly to get better results.

We run petaflop-scale, containerised compute on site, with multiple NVIDIA DGX-1 deep learning supercomputers and other GPU and FPGA-accelerated servers. This links to petabyte-scale local NetApp storage, project-specific cloud and our continuous integration systems.

O-RAN test bed

The Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) testbed is a complete 5G private network, from internet to user equipment.

The cloud-based network implements a disaggregated radio access network (RAN), using an O-RAN architecture, integrated with a 5G core.

Through the network, we can simulate performance of virtual or physical network technologies, providing a deep understanding of the complex interactions with O-RAN networks and helping our clients develop high performance solutions.

Prototyping workshop

Our electronic and mechanical prototyping workshops allow us to produce technically credible prototypes that bring ideas to life and offer a powerful demonstration of value – all while maintaining extremely high standards of quality that conform to ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 regulations.

Using the latest CNC and milling machines, lathes, welding gear and wire harness and cable assembly tools, we are able to produce parts very quickly and assemble full-scale working prototypes for testing and consumer trials.

Autonomous vehicle simulator

This powerful asset will help you evaluate and validate advanced sensors and algorithms, including next generation radar and LiDAR.

The ability to assess safety and performance without expensive testing and physical data collection vastly accelerates product development for vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.

The simulator uses synthetic sensor data to run high throughput validation of perception, planning, prediction and control algorithm designs and evaluate proposed sensor suites.
