Our expertise can enable you to differentiate your products, engage with your patients, and deliver drugs accurately and reliably.
Connected drug delivery devices: the reality of design and development
Award-winning devices
Advanced drug delivery devices can help improve the treatment of many conditions, ranging from cancer and autoimmune diseases to diabetes and asthma.
We provide rapid, patient insight-driven design and development from concept to commercial launch, with compliance to international standards, as well as FDA and EMA guidelines.

Wide-ranging applications
Our work within drug delivery includes:
High-performance respiratory products (such as MDIs, DPIs and nebulizers)
Parenteral delivery devices (such as pens, autoinjectors, patch pumps, and large volume injectors)
Electromechanical drug delivery devices integrating connectivity with eHealth solutions.
Smart connected devices
We help clients develop both consumer and medical connected devices that can harness data for engagement, adherence, and evidence of outcomes.
We developed the world's first 24/7 wrist-worn activity monitor, wireless pacemaker, wireless patient monitor, and the first connected inhaler.
Cell and gene therapies
We work with clients on cell and gene therapies to revolutionize the treatment of rare and chronic diseases.
We have invested in a world-class bioinnovation capability to support our drug delivery teams and deploy their expertise to turn the potential of this area into a reality.
How we work

Integrated product design begins with our user insight experts working with our clients to define critical stakeholder needs, which underpins all subsequent design, development, and testing phases.
Our multidisciplinary teams bring expertise in analytical sciences, human factors, industrial design and mechanical, electrical and software engineering. And our rigorous processes ensure that every device is robust and reliable, including verification and validation studies for regulatory submission.
Design for manufacturing (DFM) is embedded in our process and we work closely with manufacturers to ensure seamless transfer to production. Our end-to-end approach to development extends to packaging and instructions for use (IFU) design, and we regularly support our clients in scaling up production of their successful products.

Tech, tools & facilities

Design & analysis tools
We use a range of design tools including Solidworks and Pro/E. Analysis tools include Ansys Fluent for fluid analysis, Ansys Mechanical for finite element analysis and Maxwell for electromagnetic analysis. We use Zemax for optical simulation, Matlab for general mathematical/statistical simulation and Labview for the rapid build and control of laboratory equipment.

Development & test laboratories
We have 100,000sq feet of laboratories spread across the UK and USA, including electronic production, fabrication and low-volume production capability. This includes medical laboratories specifically equipped for analytical testing of drug delivery devices, from prototype development to design verification. Our climate-controlled labs feature laser diffraction, high-speed video, in-vitro test equipment, metrology, microscopy and force test equipment.

Prototyping workshops
Our electronic and mechanical prototyping workshops allow us to produce technically credible prototypes that bring ideas to life and offer a powerful demonstration of their value. All while maintaining extremely high standards of quality that conform to ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001 regulations. Using the latest CNC and milling machines, lathes, welding gear and wire harness and cable assembly tools, we are able to produce parts very quickly and assemble full-scale working prototypes for testing and consumer trials.

Anechoic test chamber
Our custom anechoic radio and antenna test chamber is a highly sophisticated 5m cube. Inside, we carry out automated three-dimensional measurement and visualization of wireless device behavior and test body-worn technology using body phantoms or real live test subjects. This helps us to understand and optimize real-word RF performance of products such as smart implants (including implanted telemetry), connected drug delivery devices and wearables.
