Learning and development opportunities are a core part of career development at CC. There are over 200 different internal training courses given by technical experts from around the company and numerous external courses all designed to help upskill everyone no matter their role or seniority.
James Almond shares some of his experiences of his paid paternity leave at CC, supporting his new family and his return to work.
It took a few months to get used to my new job role as the Vice President of Engineering in the Seattle office. My role took a shift to technical support for sales and business development for events. It was great to be able to talk to potential clients about what problems they were trying to solve and how we could help them. It was a remarkable experience that I wouldn’t have gotten without the support of CC.
Each day has taken me down a new avenue of learning at CC. I have had the chance to help out across three projects which has enabled me to build on personal skills like time management.
I decided to challenge myself and sign up to do the Marathon Des Sables. It was a six day self supported marathon in the Sahara desert. Cambridge Consultants sponsored me for this event and the charity donations I raised were for Hope for Children. The funds raised were doubled by CC at the end and this made it clear to me how much of a people centred place CC is to work at.
The interdisciplinary work that is done at Cambridge Consultants enabled me to get my foot in the door with multiple project teams when starting as a graduate. I have been involved in a wide range of projects since my return to CC. From modelling a bioreactor to setting up new 3D printers or designing mechanical rigs, my potential as an engineer unlocks more each day.
