Overview 

The Prototype Development Workshop provides mechanical manufacturing expertise across a wide variety of product development in all sectors. With access to a suite of manufacturing equipment including manual lathes and mills, 3 and 5 axis CNC, Laser cutter and 3D printers providing component and sub-assembly through to full machine manufacture for proof of concept, prototype and low volume deliverable hardware. 

The Role 

Here at Cambridge Consultants, we pride ourselves on having first class manufacturing capabilities, enabling our Engineers to fulfil their project aspirations. To further enhance these facilities, we require a dedicated Workshop technician to join the team and add value in a variety of different areas. 

The ideal candidate should be organised with an eye for detail with a keen interest in mechanical manufacturing. 

The remit is wide and varied and will evolve as the department grows. Extensive on the job training will be provided.  

Key aspects of the role may include: 

• Mechanical assembly 

• Hand soldering, cable assembly and machine wiring 

• Model making, spray painting and finishing 

• 3D printing 

• Laser cutting 

• Facilities maintenance and housekeeping 

• Provision of consumables 

• Tool and equipment inventory control 

• Management of project storage 

• Management of tool loans 

• General equipment maintenance 

• User training 

What you can bring 

Essential 

• Mechanical assembly experience 

• Strong communication skills (verbal & written) as well as organisational, collaboration, and problem-solving skills 

• Service orientated mindset 

Desirable 

• 3D printing experience / exposure  

• Experience working with Laser Cutters 

• Model making 

• Spray painting and finishing 

• Wiring, cabling and harness assembly to IPC/WHMA-A-620 

• Soldering to IPC-A- 610
