Our specialisms
Tracking & location
Accurate positioning and location is a core requirement for many systems operating within a global, regional or personal environment – both in real time and non-real time.
We use the latest advances in sensor technology, algorithms and connectivity to deliver next-generation solutions with improved accuracy, availability and coverage.
We provide solutions for our clients, from individual components and enhancements to full turn-key, end-to-end operational systems.
Communications systems
While connectivity is becoming ubiquitous in many devices and applications, it poses distinct challenges for the defence and security sector. This market demands communications systems with enhanced integrity, availability and security, while in many cases also operating at low power from a ruggedised platform.
With one of the world’s largest independent wireless development capabilities, we are ideally placed to meet these demands, from integrating wireless standards into existing products and platforms to the complete design of bespoke terrestrial or satellite communications systems.
Technology futures & strategic consultancy
Identifying technology threats and opportunities is important in any business, but critical to maintaining capabilities and creating operational advantage in defence and security.
With our deep understanding of technology as well as both the security and mainstream markets, we provide timely, actionable advice on a strategic and tactical level. We have a proven track record in identifying and selecting the right technologies and transferring commercial technology know-how into fast-track developments.
Data science
As gathering data becomes ever easier and more widespread, extracting information of value from this mass of information becomes ever more challenging.
We have the requisite skills in data science, business analysis, algorithm design and system implementation to pose the correct questions and extract the required meaning from your data, whether your goal is to make predictions, improve sensor performance or model system behaviours.

Sensing & detection systems
Advanced sensing and detection are at the heart of many defensive systems. We have a wealth of experience in both developing sensor systems from first principles and optimising commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems.
We work across the majority of sensing technologies, such as optical and imaging (including machine vision systems), RF and magnetic, and chemistry-based, while meeting the challenges of low size, weight and power for use in a rugged environment.
How we work
Emerging technologies present both opportunities and challenges to existing capabilities. Our combination of deep technology and domain experience produces innovative solutions that mitigate threats and deliver operational benefit to both users and senior management.
Our world-class engineers, scientists and consultants provide everything from actionable insight into technology trends, user-driven and business-driven requirements capture, concept generation and proof-of-concept prototyping, through to full system development, manufacture, deployment and in-service support.
Tech, tools & facilities

Anechoic test chamber
Our custom anechoic radio and antenna test chamber is a highly sophisticated 5m cube. Inside, we carry out automated three-dimensional measurement and visualization of wireless device behavior and test body-worn technology using body phantoms or real live test subjects. This helps us to understand and optimize real-word RF performance of products such as smart implants (including implanted telemetry), connected drug delivery devices and wearables.

Scalable software test facility
Continuous integration (CI) is central to building and delivering high-quality software. Our virtualised CI test facility enables us to test complex software at scale, with or without hardware in the loop, to identify problems earlier and fix them faster. It provides a clean, isolated virtual build environment, pre-loaded with industry-leading tools such as Coverity static analysis. CI testing is integrated with our version control, enabling every software revision to be automatically built, tested on real hardware and analysed.

Data, development & test labs
With one petabyte local storage and specialised hardware for telecoms chassis design, machine learning development and more, this facility allows us to develop, test and operate new cloud-ready digital services rapidly in a secure environment.
It enables rapid end-to-end prototyping and experimentation of sensitive concepts. We work across the full spectrum of cloud service providers, supporting both public and private infrastructures.

Digital Greenhouse
The Digital Greenhouse is our purpose-built AI research facility, specifically designed to discover, develop and test machine learning approaches in a fast, secure environment. The facility features an NVIDIA DGX-1 Deep Learning Supercomputer, a bank of machine learning computers, petabyte local storage and many teraflops of dedicated compute power.

UX design studios
Equipped for creative, collaborative thinking, we use our UX design spaces to aggregate research data, user stories and create design concepts that remain visible for the duration of the project. Each design studio allows our project teams to develop ideas and explore designs while preserving client confidentiality.

Electronic production
Our flexible, responsive, and agile manufacturing facilities are ideally suited to electronic and electromechanical product builds, enabling us to rapidly build short product runs to an extremely high quality. We can build our own PCBAs using industrial representative equipment and ensure manufacturability during design. Having our own EPD facility is also extremely helpful in development, driving out DfX activities in eCAD and feeding test results back into the design process from an early stage.
